WOW what a week! What can I say.... but it was AWESOME!!!!!! 76 kids, 76 companions and then some staff and nearly 200 people had the time of their lives out at Forbes. I must admit that the weather was HOT HOT and HOT.
Sunday -Everyone arrived around 1.00pm or so and it was straight to lunch. So many new faces this year. I had missed training weekend so didn't know of the new companions... well let me tell you there were heaps of them. That afternoon we had activities on the oval with lots going on and of course there is always POOL time!!! The pool facility at Redbend is great. That night we headed off to McDonalds for dinner followed by Orienteering for the older kids.
Monday - This day was to hang out and have activities at the college. Activities this year included Golf, Lawn Bowls, Leatherwork, Woodwork, Craft, Darts and Chocolate Making. The Night owls (9-14 year olds) got to have another swim later on that night.
Tuesday - More activities in the morning. We headed to the movies to watch Happy Feet for the juniors and Flushed Away for the night owls. Unfortunately 20 minutes into the movie the air-conditioning packed it in and we had to go home. I think it felt like about 50 degrees inside!! A bit disappointing but there wasn't much we could do.... except of course get in some more swim time!!! LOL.
That night was fancy dress night. The theme this year ----- A Night At The Movies. The costumes were vast and varied. We had all sorts of weird and wonderful additions this year.
Wednesday - We headed off to Dubbo Zoo. The weather was slightly cooler but not once we jumped on those push bikes and rode around the zoo. We were a sea of smiley faces. Our girls only lasted until lunch on the bikes and then we got on one of the jeeps to do the rest. That night on the way home we had dinner and a swim at the Parkes pool. A pretty full on day but heaps of fun!
Thursday - This was a pretty easy going day with more activities in the morning and then after lunch the girls got to create their act for the concert night. Amazing how these acts come together out of nothing. There were 12 of us and we did a song/dance to I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker. Too cute!
Friday - Here we were at the end of the week. Most of the morning was spent packing up and getting ready to head home. I couldn't believe how quickly the week had gone. It is always sad when you come to the end of camp! But it won't be long and we will be back there again.
Well all I can say is that those kids are SO, SO lucky to have somebody like you at camp with them!!! You are a true star!!
